A Lucky Day In New Orleans
30 Thursday May 2013
To start off our first full day in New Orleans, I knew we had to do something classic, and Café du Monde, the original French Market coffee stand, is as classic as it gets. Located in the French Quarter, the café is always filled to capacity with customers desperately trying to get a hold of its famous beignets and coffee. The recognizable white and green awning has become an image that is inseparable from the city itself, which is why we decided to visit right away.
It was rainy and overcast that morning, so I decided to battle the NOLA greys with one of my new looks from Lucky Brand! The bright pops of coral in the Addisyn Moto jacket and the cobalt blue statement necklace (cobalt is so in right now), designed by Amrapali for Lucky Brand, helped put a little spring in my step. And my “I Saw…You Saw…We Saw…Warsaw” navy OPI polish with custom paisley nail art were just the right touches of fun to hit the town. I’m a t-shirt and jeans kind of girl at heart, but I’m all about trying to add really fun pieces to bring something from casual to chic!
We headed for the quarter to find that Café du Monde was as packed as ever, but somehow there is always at least one table to sit at. We immediately ordered three beignets and a round of Café au Laits – the trademark meal that made the establishment so successful. Being such an avid coffee fan, Autumn had to buy two packages of their coffee, which apparently is blended with chicory. When I asked her about the interesting mix, she explained that during their civil war, the French added chicory to their coffee in order make up for its scarcity. When I asked about the history of beignets, she shrugged and said, “Who cares? They’re delicious!”
As the sun came out by the end of the morning, I tossed on my Dip Dye floppy hat and hit the streets of NOLA with coffee in hand, ready to see the beautiful sites.
Family, friends, history and food – it was the perfect beginning to an amazing day and an amazing vacation!
